FUBiS

FUBiS is an intensive, academic program through which students can earn credits that may be counted towards their degrees at their home institutions. These courses are supplemented by German language courses at up to five different proficiency levels. Students have many options on how to combine these subject and language classes. FUBiS sessions run for 3 to 6 weeks and take place both in summer and winter.

The topics of the subject classes range from European Studies, to Music Composition, to German Literature and are usually held in English by distinguished German and international faculty. For the courses the whole city of Berlin is used as an interactive campus with excursions to Berlin sights and museums relevant to the course. Therefore, students explore the city while learning. Check out what students say about FUBiS!

On top of all that, FUBiS offers extracurricular activities to bond with your classmates and get to know the German way of life. Those activities include: a visit of the Reichstag Building and the Federal Parliament, a river boat tour through Berlin and a weekly movie screening presenting popular and well-known German movies.

FU-BEST

Freie Universität Berlin European Studies Program (FU-BEST) is an intensive and diverse study abroad program. It is organized in two regular American-style Fall (Sept.-Dec.) and Spring (Jan.-Apr.) semesters and teaches subject as well as language classes. If you want to get a sense of the reunified Germany and the challenges of the post-Cold War era in a fast-changing Europe within an academic program, there is really almost no better option than FU-BEST.

Students at FU-BEST combine mandatory German language courses with a choice of 2-3 subject courses from a variety of study fields in the Humanities and Social Sciences, all with a focus on Berlin, Germany, and Europe. Using Berlin with its rich cultural, political, and historical offerings as a resource, all courses integrate field-trips in order to fully profit from the unique location of this fascinating metropolis. All FU-BEST participants are also taken on a week-long excursion to other European destinations such as Vienna, Prague, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Budapest, Paris, or London. Optional extra-curricular student activities include a regularly offered “Stammtisch”, the opportunity to set up a language tandem, or working as a volunteer in a variety of community institutions.

FU-BEST’s mission is to educate responsible, global citizens by promoting intercultural sensitivity in a multi-faceted environment and by linking high-quality academic instruction with a broader international experience.
