The Freie Universität Berlin and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München have joined together to strengthen and expand the academic bonds between these two prestigious German universities and students, scholars, scientists and universities in the United States of America and Canada.

The office of the German University Alliance in Manhattan is dedicated to enhancing and extending the ties between these countries, focusing on a variety of academic areas. GUA was founded in 2005 and is a 501(c)3 organization in the state of New York. 

For first-class German universities, international exchange in not only research but also in teaching and students is vital for progress in education.

In addition to their close relationships with universities in Europe and Asia, Freie Universität Berlin and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München have developed strong academic ties particularly with institutions in North America. 

GUA is intended to foster scientific cooperation between both universities and their American counterparts.  We are designed to support the already existing exchange programs in the US and to promote new academic cooperation. 

In accordance with our strong traditions of fostering academic dialogue between diverse audiences, GUA organizes events to bring forward discussions with American and German scholars, researchers, diplomats, businesspeople and journalists.
