Planning to pursue a graduate degree abroad can seem overwhelming. This event is designed to help you navigate the process – from finding the right program and university to understanding the requirements and application process. 

Meet representatives from German universities, funding agencies and partner organizations and learn about programs and requirements, funding opportunities, the application process, visa, residence permits, health insurance, -- and much more!

Katrin Kempiners is an Information Officer at DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).  At DAAD, she is responsible for advising students and faculty on scholarship and grant opportunities as well as researching current developments on core academic issues, such as tenure track, diversity, and funding. Before she joined DAAD New York, Katrin gained extensive experience in marketing, communications, and research at the University of Freiburg, Colgate University, Middlebury College, and the German Research Foundation (DFG). Having taught at several institutions in the US and Germany, Katrin has excellent knowledge of both academic systems and cultures.  Feel free to reach out to her should you have any questions on funding your stay abroad in Germany.

Tracy LaGrassa is a Science Teacher in the Biology Department of The Bronx High School of Science. Tracy received her PhD at Heidelberg University Biochemistry Center (BZH) following a master's degree from the International Graduate Program in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Heidelberg University. She returned to the U.S. after finishing her thesis, and continued in research as a postdoctoral fellow mainly with Stephen Goff at Columbia University, where she studied membrane traffic during Hepatitis C and retroviral infections. Subsequently, Tracy became a patent agent at the international law firm Jones Day, where she was part of the biotech patent practice for seven years. During this time she also earned her law degree at Fordham University School of Law.

Sean O'Grady is an Advanced Evaluation Specialist at World Education Services (WES). At WES, Sean specializes in the analysis and evaluation of academic and professional qualifications from Northern and Western Europe. Prior to joining WES, Sean was a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Augsburg, Germany. Sean is a native New Yorker who graduated from Reed College in Portland, Oregon with a degree in German and spent a year abroad at Munich's Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität.

Stephanie Russell-Kraft is a Brooklyn-based freelance reporter who writes about the intersections of religion, culture, law, and gender. She has written for the New Republic, The Atlantic, The Hill, Religion & Politics, Religion Dispatches, among other publications, and she is a regular contributor to Bloomberg Law. Stephanie also serves on the board of WAM!NYC, the New York chapter of a national non-profit dedicated to gender justice in the media, and in 2016, she was the recipient of a U.S.-Austrian Journalism Exchange Fellowship from the International Center for Journalists. She earned a BA in Comparative Literature and Society from Columbia University and an MA in cultural anthropology from Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin.
