Semester & Year-long Programs

Freie Universität Berlin European Studies Program (FU-BEST)

FU-BEST is designed for American and Canadian students who are interested in European and German studies at a premier European study destination. Its mission is to educate responsible, global citizens by linking high-quality academic instruction with a broader international experience.

FU-BEST’s unique North American style semesters allow undergraduates to study for a semester or an academic year in the Fall (September-December) and the Spring (February-May) semester. The program consists of a German language course, elective courses offered in cultural studies, architecture, business, politics, film studies, literature, among other topics taught in English or German, local field trips, a one week excursion, and a two month internship option.

Berlin Consortium for German Studies

Undergraduates can choose to study for a spring semester or an academic year with the Berlin Consortium for German Studies (BCGS). The program was founded in 1995 by a group of U.S. universities for highly motivated and independent students dedicated to mastering the German language and to give them the opportunity to enroll in a broad range of German university courses with the support of a structured program.

Students enroll in four courses, which consist of German language, a BCGS course, and elective courses choices from a broad range of disciplines at the FU Berlin. German graduate students provide support for navigating the German university culture. In addition, the program allows them to fully experience German life, customs, and culture.
